Anthropic Establishes Presence in Seoul and Strengthens AI Alliances in Korea
Anthropic, a leading company in the field of artificial intelligence, has recently announced the opening of a new office in Seoul. This initiative is accompanied by a series of strategic partnerships with companies, startups, researchers, and South Korean government institutions. This move not only highlights the growing importance of the Korean market in the field of AI but also underscores Anthropic's ambition to position its tool, Claude, as an essential reference for large-scale professional applications.
Anthropic's expansion in South Korea is marked by the official opening of its office in Seoul. Concurrently, the company has forged collaborations with several major Korean tech giants, such as NAVER, LG CNS, Samsung SDS, and Hanwha Solutions. An agreement has also been signed with the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT to enhance initiatives related to AI security and cybersecurity. This strategy combines business objectives, institutional cooperation, and support for research, as South Korea establishes itself as one of the most dynamic markets for AI.
Why Does Anthropic Choose Seoul to Develop Claude?
The opening of the Seoul office marks a significant step in Anthropic's international strategy. South Korea is recognized for its ability to rapidly adopt new technologies and integrate them into large-scale industrial applications. This new establishment is led by KiYoung Choi, a prominent figure in the Korean tech industry with several decades of experience. This local presence aims to bring Anthropic closer to the players already developing applications based on Claude. According to the company, Korea ranks among the top twelve countries in the world in terms of Claude usage, particularly in technical and creative sectors.
Major AI model providers are increasing their investments in Asia, and Anthropic seeks to strengthen its proximity to companies that are already deploying its technologies. The opening of a local office facilitates support, technical collaborations, and the development of new use cases tailored to the needs of the Korean market. Furthermore, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT to support the responsible adoption of AI in the public sector. This partnership includes work on cybersecurity, the evaluation of language models in Korean, and the sharing of information on AI-related threats.
As countries develop their own regulatory frameworks for AI, model providers are looking to demonstrate their ability to balance innovation, security, and compliance. For Anthropic, this closeness to Korean authorities enhances its credibility on a topic that has become central for both businesses and governments.
Anthropic Expands AI Usage Among Major Korean Corporations
Anthropic highlights the growing adoption of Claude by some of the largest Korean tech groups. Among the most significant examples is NAVER, the Asian giant in cloud and AI, which has recently deployed Claude Code across its entire engineering organization. Thousands of developers are now using this tool to accelerate their programming tasks and improve their productivity.
A similar trend is observed at Nexon, a global player in online gaming. Nexon's technical teams rely on Claude Code to develop, revise, and deploy code for games used by millions of players. Major Korean conglomerates are also following this trend:
- LG CNS is deploying Claude to thousands of employees before a group-wide expansion at LG.
- Hanwha Solutions is making the technology available to its international teams via AWS Bedrock, while adhering to sovereignty and data security constraints.
- Samsung SDS is expanding the use of Claude to employees at Samsung Electronics to automate certain intellectual tasks and support large-scale software development.
The startup ecosystem is not left behind. Channel Corp is integrating Claude into its Channel Talk platform, used by over 230,000 companies in Korea, Japan, and the United States. This tool allows for handling customer inquiries and analyzing business data to generate operational recommendations.
Anthropic is also looking to strengthen its presence in academic research. The company will collaborate with the National AI Research Lab (NAIRL), a consortium that brings together several leading universities in the country, including KAIST, Korea University, Yonsei, and POSTECH. The goal is to support work on the security, evaluation, and robustness of AI models.
