Enclave secures $6 million in funding

Enclave, a startup specializing in detecting hidden vulnerabilities in code generated by artificial intelligence, has announced that it has raised $6 million in a seed funding round. This funding, which values the company at $33 million, was led by the investment firm 8VC. Notable investors include Patrick Collison, co-founder of Stripe, Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, and Jeremy Stoppelman, CEO of Yelp.

8VC's support for Enclave is partly motivated by their investment in Cognition, another AI coding startup. Cognition is behind Devin, a coding agent, allowing 8VC to closely observe the rapid proliferation of AI-generated software. Vivek Gopalan from 8VC stated, "As a result, we have seen a lot of AI code generation both in our companies and in large enterprises. Next-generation tools will not be enough."

A team grounded in Israeli military expertise

Enclave was founded by Tal Hoffman, who serves as CEO, Dvir Segev, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Yanir Tsarimi, the Chief Product Officer (CPO). All three share a background in application security. Hoffman and Tsarimi met within the elite Israeli unit Unit 8200, a military intelligence unit widely recognized as a training ground for talent in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. This unit has produced several leading tech companies, including cybersecurity firms like Check Point, Palo Alto Networks, CyberArk, and Wiz.

The rise of AI coding and its challenges

The use of AI in coding is on the rise. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, indicated last year that about 30% of the company's code is generated by AI. Additionally, Boris Cherny, founder and head of Claude Code, stated this year that "practically 100% of our code is written by Claude Code + Opus 4.5," noting that he had not written a single line of code in two months.

Tal Hoffman, who started coding at the age of 12, estimates that about 60% of the code in all startups is currently written by AI. "In a three-year horizon, we will certainly exceed 90%," he said, adding that AI has significantly accelerated the coding process at Enclave. "Yesterday, we were writing this massive feature that would normally have taken two weeks. AI did it in two hours."

However, all AI-generated code creates vulnerabilities, according to Hoffman. "Current solutions optimize for quantity, not quality," he explained. Enclave enters an already saturated application security market, including companies like Snyk, Checkmarx, and Semgrep. Hoffman aims to stand out by focusing less on finding known issues and more on understanding systems holistically. "By integrating this deep knowledge of your systems' behavior, it becomes much easier to know where to look for vulnerabilities," he concluded.
