Google Launches Gemini 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite

While waiting for Gemini 3.5 Pro, which is expected to compete with the most powerful models from Anthropic and OpenAI, Google has just launched two new, smaller models that are offered for free on Gemini, designed for everyday efficiency. These new AIs are Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, which are accessible to all users of the Gemini application.

Gemini 3.6 Flash is an enhanced version of Gemini 3.5 Flash, which Google has been offering for free since May. According to the company, this new model delivers higher performance in coding, on administrative tasks, as well as on multimodal tasks (which handle multiple types of files). The new AI is also more efficient, meaning it should consume fewer resources to achieve the same results. For more complex tasks, this new AI can save you time. Indeed, according to Google, Gemini 3.6 Flash requires “fewer reasoning steps and tool calls to execute multi-step workflows.” Gemini 3.6 Flash records an average time per task of 1.3 minutes, which is a reduction of over 50% compared to Gemini 3.5 Flash (2.7 minutes).

As for 3.5 Flash-Lite, it is Google's new AI for applications requiring affordable and responsive artificial intelligence (low latency). “Early users of version 3.5 of Flash-Lite highlight its unique combination of speed, intelligence, and cost-effectiveness for scaling agent workflows and data processing tasks,” claims Google.

Gemini 3.5 Pro: Google’s Ultra-Powerful AI is Under Testing

While the arrival of Gemini 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite is good news for users of the free version of Gemini (and for those whose needs align with the features of these models), everyone is eagerly awaiting the launch of Gemini 3.5 Pro, Google's new ultra-powerful AI, which is expected to compete with models like Claude Fable 5, GPT-5.6 Sol, or Kimi K3.

In its announcement, the Mountain View firm states that Gemini 3.5 Pro is currently being tested by its partners and that this new model will be launched as soon as it is ready. Furthermore, Google is also working on the next generation. “We have begun our most ambitious pre-training campaign to date for Gemini 4, and we are excited about the progress made,” the company announces.

Additionally, Google has also just launched Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, an AI model that, like Claude Mythos, specializes in identifying and fixing security vulnerabilities. This specialized model will be offered to governments and “trusted partners” through a pilot program.
