AI: A New Step in Digital Transformation
Artificial intelligence (AI) is part of the ongoing evolution of major digital revolutions, but it requires a solid support project to avoid counterproductive adoption. For decades, each technological advancement has raised questions and concerns. For instance, the early email systems saw some managers demanding to be copied on all messages or to have them printed automatically.
With the advent of instant messaging, new issues emerged, particularly regarding the understanding of presence indicators. An "away" status did not necessarily mean that an employee had left their post, which required explanations to avoid misunderstandings.
The first virtual teams also raised hesitations. Broadly sharing knowledge could be perceived as a loss of power. For some, retaining information remained a way to preserve their expertise or influence.
Hesitations Regarding AI
The deployment of AI raises similar questions. Whether to improve individual or collective productivity, AI brings fears related to a lack of understanding of the tools, the fear of job loss, or the questioning of one's expertise. Some of these concerns are valid and must be taken seriously before any large-scale deployment.
Without a thoughtful approach, there is a risk of a divide between those who will quickly adopt AI, sometimes without understanding its limitations, and those who will shy away from it. This divide could have consequences on usage, team cohesion, and project effectiveness.
A Collective Corporate Project
To successfully deploy AI, it is crucial to approach it as a comprehensive corporate project. This cannot be the sole responsibility of IT. Senior management, human resources, and various departments must be involved. The deployment of AI must be anticipated and adapted to the realities on the ground. Without this collective approach, the company risks creating poorly managed usages, generating additional costs, exposing itself to data losses, and ultimately producing the opposite effect of what was intended.
