On May 28, Mistral AI made a significant impression with its first "AI Now" summit at the Carrousel du Louvre. This event, organized with a spectacular staging that included a stage advance, light shows, and a saturated rock opening, aimed to attract European companies by highlighting the sovereignty and efficiency of its artificial intelligence solutions.
A European Ambition
The co-founders of Mistral took this opportunity to appear together on stage, a first since the startup's inception. The event attracted 1,400 participants from across Europe, including Italians, Germans, Spaniards, and Scandinavians, who came to discover Mistral's potential as a European champion of generative AI. The summit featured three parallel stages, offering an unprecedented format for a French tech event.
A Predominantly French Lineup
Despite its international ambition, the majority of the use cases presented came from French companies such as CMA CGM, TotalEnergies, EDF, and BNP Paribas. The testimonials, while positive, often lacked concrete demonstrations, contrasting with the practices of some American competitors.
Sovereignty and Efficiency at the Heart of the Discourse
Mistral emphasized two key arguments to attract its European clients: sovereignty and the ease of deploying its models. Bertrand Rondepierre, director of AMIAD, made sovereignty his number one criterion. These advantages are particularly valued by companies like CMA CGM and EDF, which appreciate the lightweight nature and easy integration of Mistral's models.
A Unique Vertical Integration
Mistral stands out with its ambition to become a full-stack AI company, mastering not only the models and software but also its own hardware. This vertical integration allows it to control the entire AI production chain, a rare asset in the market.
A Bet on Efficiency
Rather than following the race for computing power, Mistral focuses on efficiency, seeking to optimize the intelligence/cost ratio of its models. This strategy is particularly suited to the European context, where computing resources are more limited than in the United States. The challenge for Mistral will be to convince beyond its traditional supporters from the CAC 40 and the public sector.
