OpenAI Introduces Advanced Task Management in ChatGPT
OpenAI has recently announced a significant update to ChatGPT with the introduction of Scheduled Tasks, a feature that transforms the management of scheduled tasks. This new addition is manifested through a dedicated page accessible directly from the sidebar of the interface. While the task management feature, known as Tasks, has been available since January 2025, this new version makes it more accessible, reliable, and enriched with enhanced monitoring capabilities.
The update introduces a "Scheduled" page that centralizes all of the user's active tasks. This page not only allows users to view the next occurrence of each task but also to pause, modify, or delete them easily, without having to navigate through a conversation. OpenAI promises that these tasks are now "faster, more reliable, and easier to manage," thus providing an improved user experience.
Two Scheduling Modes for Greater Flexibility
ChatGPT users can now choose between two scheduling modes for their tasks: a specific time or a broader time window, such as morning, afternoon, or evening. This flexibility allows tasks to be tailored to the specific needs of each user, making the tool even more practical for daily use.
One of the most interesting features of this update is the introduction of monitoring tasks. These tasks enable ChatGPT to monitor the web or connected applications and alert the user only when relevant changes are detected. This opens up new possibilities for users who want to stay informed without being overwhelmed by unnecessary notifications.
A Look Back at the Evolution of Tasks Since 2025
The Tasks feature was initially launched in beta in January 2025 for Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers. In its early days, it was limited to simple use cases such as one-time reminders, weekly recurrences, and scheduled news summaries. However, it suffered from several limitations, including frequent bugs and the inability to trigger a task based on an external variable, such as a match score or stock price.
This update aims to address these shortcomings with a more robust engine and the introduction of monitoring tasks that finally incorporate conditional logic. This means that users can now configure tasks that respond to specific conditions, thereby expanding the possibilities for task automation.
The Disappearance of ChatGPT Pulse
Alongside this update, OpenAI has decided to discontinue Pulse, a personalized morning briefing feature launched in September 2025 and reserved for Pro subscribers. This decision comes shortly after the announcement of Daily Brief by Gemini, which offers a similar service.
The functions of Pulse are now integrated into the new scheduled tasks system. Users can ask ChatGPT to schedule a daily briefing based on their interests and previous interactions. Pro subscribers will have access to Pulse for an additional 14 days starting from June 17, 2026, giving them time to adjust to these changes.
