Apple appears ready to make a significant leap in the field of generative artificial intelligence as WWDC 2026 approaches. The Cupertino company recently registered a new subdomain, genai.apple.com, just weeks before its annual developer conference scheduled for early June. Although this site is not yet active, its registration hints at important announcements regarding AI during the event.
A Turning Point Expected for Siri
WWDC 2026 could mark a turning point for Siri, Apple's voice assistant. Indeed, several features promised during WWDC 2024, but never realized, could finally come to fruition. Among these features are Siri's ability to better understand the user's personal context, read what is displayed on the screen, and perform actions directly within applications. To achieve these goals, Apple would rely on a strategic partnership with Google, utilizing models derived from Gemini hosted on its Cloud infrastructure.
Furthermore, Apple is considering launching a new app dedicated to Siri, allowing users to review their interaction history with the assistant and interact in writing, in addition to the traditional voice mode.
Innovations Beyond Siri
In addition to the anticipated improvements for Siri, Apple is expected to unveil other innovations under the Apple Intelligence banner. These include the ability to generate Wallet passes from physical tickets, new editing functions in the Photos app, as well as enhancements to Visual Intelligence.
Apple is also expected to dedicate part of its announcements to performance gains and stability fixes across its various platforms. WWDC 2026, which will take place from Monday, June 8 to Friday, June 12, promises to be rich in announcements, with the official presentation of the upcoming operating systems scheduled for June 9. Apple seems determined to catch up in the field of artificial intelligence, a sector that has become crucial for maintaining its competitiveness against rivals.
