This positioning is similar to that of Microsoft with Copilot Tasks, which also offers autonomous AI within a controlled framework, lacking the flexibility of open-source.

Anthropic does not seek to eliminate OpenClaw but rather to expand the market. Claude Computer Use is aimed at those seeking frictionless agency, without the need to code or choose a model. OpenClaw, on the other hand, remains the preferred tool for users wanting complete control, the ability to mix models, and run their stack locally. These two approaches coexist as they cater to different user profiles. The real question is whether Anthropic will relax its restrictions in the future or if the closed environment will remain the norm as functionality evolves beyond its preview phase.
