Claude by Anthropic: 50% of Users Delegate to AI
About half of Claude users claim that AI can already handle half or more of their work. This is the finding of a survey conducted by Anthropic among approximately 9,700 users of Claude (Chat, Cowork, Code). Around 33% believe that AI is usable for 30 to 60% of their tasks. Another 14% place this figure between 60 and 90%. Approximately 4% believe that Claude could already accomplish all of their work.
The share of work tasks that AI could manage according to Claude users, today (gray) versus in 12 months (orange). Most users currently estimate that AI covers 10 to 60% of their tasks. In a year, many expect AI to handle 60% or more.
Looking ahead to the next 12 months, about 26% expect AI to take on the majority of their work. The survey specifically focuses on concrete tasks that AI manages, such as writing a text. Work is generally more than the sum of individual tasks, especially regarding the transfer of knowledge between them.
The most work-related uses in the Anthropic data are:
- Marketing content (80%)
- Blog or article writing (81%)
- Database queries (82%)
These figures refer to Claude's Artifacts feature, where the output is a concrete deliverable like a document or an interactive graphic, rather than just a chat response.
Claude users utilize AI for Chat and Cowork. Academic papers, presentations, and database queries are almost entirely used for work or courses. Recipes, creative writing, and games are predominantly personal. Marketing content, documents, and blog articles are among the most work-oriented categories.
Expectations regarding the pace of progress are "striking and consistent" across all groups, according to Anthropic, regardless of experience, location, or profession. The study describes a "rising tide" of AI capabilities that are generally improving.
Users Hope for Collaboration, Not Replacement
Early-career workers see the largest share of tasks that could be performed by AI and are the most concerned about their jobs. However, the most frequent users of Claude are the most optimistic. They believe their skills are becoming more valuable. How people assess their career prospects heavily depends on their experience with AI and their professional advancement.
Most respondents hope to work alongside AI rather than be replaced by it. They want AI to take over boring and routine tasks, and for the gains to be widely shared, reports Anthropic.
Many other interesting data points are presented in the study.
