On March 17, 2026, Anthropic unveiled Dispatch, a new feature that promises to transform office task management by allowing users to control it directly from a mobile phone. By integrating this option into its ecosystem, Anthropic enhances the autonomy of its artificial intelligence, Claude.
Accessible via a dedicated entry in Cowork, Dispatch offers seamless synchronization between mobile devices and desktop computers. This innovation aims to simplify task management such as report creation or folder organization while facilitating the transition between different work environments.
However, despite its promises, Dispatch still presents certain limitations. Initial reviews highlight issues with speed and accuracy in some scenarios. Additionally, for the system to function, the computer must remain on, a factor that could hinder its adoption.
How Claude Dispatch Works
Anthropic designed Dispatch to be easily accessible to a wide audience. After updating Claude Desktop and the mobile app, a new Dispatch entry appears in the sidebar of Cowork. A QR code is then generated to link the Mac session with the phone, allowing for a direct connection between the two devices.
The system relies on a single, persistent conversation thread, synchronized between the phone and the computer. This allows users to start a task on their phone, for example while commuting, and pick it up on their desktop once they arrive.
Anthropic has documented several use cases for Dispatch, covering a wide range of tasks:
- Extracting data from a local spreadsheet to produce a report
- Searching emails and Slack to generate a briefing
- Creating presentations from files stored in Google Drive
- Organizing folders on the disk
A Feature Still in Need of Refinement
Although promising, Dispatch is currently in a research preview phase. Initial feedback confirms that some tasks, such as information searching and synthesis, work well. However, issues remain, particularly for more complex actions like sending files via message, interacting with open applications, or accessing the active tab of a browser, which yield random results.
Latency is also a point of criticism, as noted by MacStories in a thorough test. Furthermore, the computer must stay on and the application open for Claude to execute tasks, and there are currently no notifications to indicate the completion of a task. The management of a single thread does not allow for compartmentalizing missions, which can complicate task organization.
For those wishing to test Dispatch, it is necessary to subscribe to a Max plan, with an extension planned for Pro subscribers.
