Full Analysis

Google Labs, the experimental branch of Google dedicated to innovation, has recently introduced Dreambeans, a revolutionary application that uses artificial intelligence to transform your daily life into animated stories. Available on iOS and Android platforms, this tool promises to bring your personal data to life in the form of cartoons.

What is Dreambeans?

Gozde Oznur, the head of development for this application, detailed to TechCrunch the main objective of Dreambeans: to use data from various Google services to generate a series of AI-illustrated narratives. These narratives take the form of lifestyle suggestions, such as places to visit, topics to explore, activities to try, upcoming trips, or events not to miss. Oznur describes these suggestions as ways to spark imagination and encourage users to discover new experiences.

Dreambeans relies on users' personal data, with their consent, to create these stories. The application uses information from Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and search history. “With your permission, Dreambeans uses personal intelligence to connect information from Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and search history to create a finished collection of daily stories designed to inspire new ideas,” the company states.

Examples of Generated Stories

Among the stories that Dreambeans can generate are geographical recommendations, such as discovering a new café near the user. If a user has recently added the arrival of a puppy to their Google Calendar, the application might suggest tips on living with a new pet. Additionally, Dreambeans can select online news articles based on the user's past interests, providing a personalized reading experience.

An Antidote to Doomscrolling

The Dreambeans application has also been designed to counter the phenomenon of doomscrolling, which involves spending long periods consuming negative content online. To achieve this, the application limits the number of stories suggested each day to a range between 10 and 14. The idea is to provide a few inspiring ideas that encourage the user to get out and live their life, rather than remain glued to their screen. Many companies are currently seeking to attract users tired of their phone dependency.

Privacy Protection

Regarding personal data protection, Oznur assures that privacy measures are robust. “The only person who has access to the app's stories is the user,” she stated. Users also have the option to delete their data at any time and choose which Google services they wish to connect to the tool.

Origin of the Name "Dreambeans"

The name Dreambeans was chosen to reflect how the application works. “The dream part is literal, as while you sleep, the app processes everything in your connected apps, because, as you can imagine, it distills a lot of data,” Oznur explained. “The beans part relates to how you start your day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. It has processed everything overnight and hands you a concentrated drop of inspiration in the morning.”

Currently, Dreambeans is available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers based in the United States on Android and iOS. However, there is also a waiting list accessible to users with a personal Google account.
