As Google approaches its annual conference Google I/O 2026, the company has taken the lead by organizing the Android Show: I/O Edition, where it unveiled a series of new features for Android. Among the announcements, the introduction of Gemini Intelligence, a set of artificial intelligence capabilities, and the launch of a new type of PC, the Googlebook, captured attention.
Custom Widgets in Natural Language
Google introduced Create My Widget, a feature that allows users to create custom widgets using natural language descriptions. For example, a cyclist can request a weather widget that displays only wind speed and rain risk. This widget can be added and resized directly on the home screen, offering effortless customization. This feature will first be available on Wear OS watches and will roll out to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices this summer, before expanding to other Android devices.
Rambler: Hesitation-Free Voice Dictation
As part of the Gboard app, Google launched Rambler, a new voice dictation feature that uses Gemini Intelligence to transcribe speech in real-time while eliminating hesitations and repetitions. For instance, if a user says "meeting at 3 PM… uh, 2 PM," the final message will be "meeting at 2 PM." Rambler also supports mixing languages within a single message and ensures that audio is neither stored nor recorded.
Quick Share Compatible with AirDrop
Google has expanded the compatibility of Quick Share with AirDrop, allowing for simplified file sharing between Android and iOS. Following the Pixel, this feature will be available on devices from brands such as Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor. For incompatible devices, Quick Share can now generate a QR code to share files to an iPhone via the cloud. Additionally, Google announced the integration of Quick Share into certain third-party applications, starting with WhatsApp. Furthermore, Android 17 introduces a transfer tool from iOS to Android, covering passwords, photos, messages, favorite apps, contacts, eSIM card, and home screen layout.
Pause Point: A Break Before Distractions
Pause Point is a new digital wellness feature integrated into Android. When a user opens an app they have identified as distracting, Android imposes a ten-second pause before allowing access. During this pause, the user can perform a breathing exercise, set a timer to limit their usage time, view their favorite photos, or turn to an alternative app. To prevent bypassing, disabling Pause Point requires a phone restart.
Noto 3D: Three-Dimensional Emojis
Google has revamped its entire set of 4,000 Android emojis with a collection called Noto 3D. The new visuals abandon flat rendering in favor of a volumetric representation, with details and textures designed to make expressions more readable in digital exchanges. The Noto 3D emojis will be available across all Google devices, starting with Pixel smartphones later this year.
Googlebook: An AI-Centric PC
Finally, Google introduced the Googlebook, a new category of laptops designed to harness the power of Gemini Intelligence. The standout feature of the lineup is Magic Pointer, a cursor developed with Google DeepMind that integrates Gemini. By pointing at an item on the screen, the user can receive contextual suggestions, such as scheduling an appointment from a date in an email or viewing two images together. The Googlebooks also allow direct access to mobile apps from the computer without downloading, and quick access to phone files is planned via the file explorer. The first models, manufactured with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, are expected in the fall of 2026.
