A New, More Efficient AI Model
On Tuesday, Google unveiled Nano Banana 2 Lite, the latest iteration of its AI-based image and video generator. This new version stands out for its speed and reduced cost, features highlighted by the company to attract a wide range of users.
Optimized Performance
The Nano Banana 2 Lite model is distinguished by significantly reduced latency, allowing for image creation in just four seconds. This speed makes it a preferred tool for professionals requiring rapid and high-volume production. Additionally, with a price of $0.034 per 1,000 images, it proves particularly economical for those looking to generate and refine their content on a large scale.
Continuous Evolution
This launch is part of the ongoing evolution of the Nano Banana lineup, which first debuted last summer with the Gemini 3.1 Flash engine. In February, Nano Banana 2 brought notable advancements, including the ability to produce more realistic images. Google also offers a more advanced version, Nano Banana Pro, aimed at more complex and demanding use cases.
A Tool for High-Volume Workflows
While Nano Banana 2 is designed as a "generalist worker," the Lite version is specifically optimized for high-volume workflows requiring quick execution. Google emphasizes the adaptability of its model to the needs of users pressed for time.
The Challenges of AI in Creation
Despite criticisms regarding the "AI waste" generated by these technologies, companies continue to invest heavily in tools capable of producing images and videos. Google, in particular, often positions its models as practical solutions for advertising creation.
Strategic Partnerships
The ties between AI companies and Hollywood are strengthening, raising concerns among some creative communities. A recent example is the $75 million agreement signed by Google with independent studio A24, a partnership that has elicited mixed reactions among fans.
Availability and New Features
Nano Banana 2 Lite is now available through Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent platform. This model replaces the original Nano Banana, which is now considered a "legacy model."
Additional Innovations
In parallel, Google announced the expanded rollout of Gemini Omni Flash, initially showcased at Google I/O. This service costs $0.10 per second of produced video. Google also introduced a new demo application, Omni Product Studio, capable of transforming static images into "cinematic e-commerce videos."
Google stated in a blog that these innovations aim to facilitate creative iteration, enabling developers to create comprehensive multimedia experiences, from rapid image generation to video creation and editing.
