Google Unveils Gemini Spark, Its Innovative AI Agent

At the Google I/O 2026 event, Google unveiled Gemini Spark, its own version of the AI agent platform OpenClaw. This agent, which has generated significant interest in the tech sector, is designed to be always active and offers a variety of features, such as drafting emails, creating continuously updated study guides, and monitoring credit card statements to identify hidden charges.

Advanced Features and Integrations

Gemini Spark operates on the Gemini 3.5 Flash engine and runs in the background 24/7 via virtual machines on Google Cloud. It is designed to integrate with Workspace applications such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Google also announced plans to extend these integrations to third-party applications through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open protocol that facilitates the connection of AI models to external systems. Potential partners include Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart.

This summer, Gemini Spark will be able to interact with users' local files through the Gemini app on macOS. According to Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio, the AI agent will continue to operate in the background even when devices are turned off, providing seamless and continuous task management.

New Communication and Interface Features

Google also plans to allow users to send messages and emails directly with Spark, similar to how OpenClaw users interact with their personal agent via messaging apps. Additionally, Gemini Spark may eventually connect to Chrome and will offer users the ability to see live updates in a new UI space called “Android Halo.”

User Control and Gradual Deployment

Google emphasizes user control with Gemini Spark. Users will be able to determine the connections and activation times of the agent. The system will also request permissions for significant actions, such as making payments or sending emails. Gemini Spark will initially be deployed to "trusted testers" this week, before being offered in beta to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States next week.

New Developments for Developers

In parallel, Google is updating its AI coding tool, Antigravity, which will be integrated with Gemini Spark. A new Antigravity desktop application will serve as a hub for managing AI agents and their tasks. Additionally, a command-line interface and a software development kit will be available for developers looking to create their own AI tools.
