Google recently unveiled a new application called Pics, designed to simplify image editing through artificial intelligence. This app stands out for its ability to significantly streamline the image modification process, eliminating the need to write complex prompts.
Instead, Pics allows users to click directly on the element they wish to modify in an image and leave a brief note indicating the desired change. This process resembles adding comments in a Google document, making interaction with the app intuitive and accessible.
Pics relies on a combination of Gemini technologies and the Nano Banana 2 image model developed by Google. During a demonstration, a Google employee showcased this feature by modifying a children's birthday invitation. She clicked on an image of a cat and left a note to replace it with a dog. Similarly, she changed the address on the card by simply clicking on it. Although the image was updated quickly, the final result still showed a dog that resembled a cat, highlighting the challenges that remain in the technology.
Gradual Launch and Future Integration
Pics will initially be available as a web application for a limited group of "trusted testers." Google plans to expand access to this application later this summer for subscribers of its AI Ultra plan. Ultimately, the goal is to integrate Pics directly into other applications within Google’s Workspace suite. This would allow users to create and edit images without leaving the application they are working in, thereby optimizing their workflow.
