GPT-5.4-Cyber: OpenAI's Response to Claude Mythos
OpenAI, the giant in artificial intelligence, has recently unveiled its latest model, GPT-5.4 Cyber, in response to the threat posed by Claude Mythos, the advanced model from Anthropic. The latter has garnered significant attention due to its power, to the extent that Dario Amodei's company has chosen not to make it public. Its ability to detect vulnerabilities across cyberspace is such that it could be exploited by hackers, leading Anthropic to limit its use to a select few companies, including some major American banks.
OpenAI Introduces Its New AI Model GPT-5.4 Cyber
In light of the excitement generated by Claude Mythos, OpenAI has decided not to remain on the sidelines. The company has officially announced its model GPT-5.4 Cyber, designed to compete with Anthropic's tool. OpenAI stated: “In anticipation of the arrival, over the coming months, of increasingly powerful OpenAI models, we are fine-tuning our models specifically to enable defensive use cases in cybersecurity, starting today with a variant of GPT-5.4 trained to be 'cyber-permissive': GPT-5.4-Cyber.”
A Powerful Tool for Cybersecurity
GPT-5.4 Cyber stands out for its ability to detect vulnerabilities and assess the robustness of software without needing access to the source code. This means it can be used to directly analyze unknown software or those used in cyberattacks, such as malware and spyware. This feature makes it particularly valuable for companies looking to strengthen their cybersecurity.
Limited Access and Trusted Program
Similar to Claude Mythos, OpenAI has chosen to restrict access to GPT-5.4 Cyber. Only "cybersecurity defenders" can currently use this tool, and they must enroll in the Trusted Access for Cyber program. This program imposes several verifications, and the level of access granted depends on the trust established with OpenAI.
Is OpenAI Becoming a Follower in the AI Sector?
It is interesting to note that OpenAI seems to be reacting quickly to innovations from its competitors. Last year, the company had already rushed the release of GPT-5.2 to respond to the challenge posed by Gemini 3. This trend raises questions about OpenAI's position in the artificial intelligence sector: is it transitioning from a leader to a follower?
