Rivian Enters the Embedded AI Arena

The battle for supremacy in smart cars is heating up. Rivian, the American automaker, has officially launched its AI-powered voice assistant, challenging Tesla and its renowned Grok. This announcement was made during Rivian's very first "Autonomy and AI Day" in December 2025.

A Multi-Model AI for Optimized Interactions

Rivian's voice assistant does not rely on a single AI model but on a combination of several, allowing it to select the most suitable one for each user request. This technology is now available to owners of Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles, provided they subscribe to the Connect+ service for $15 per month.

With this integration, users can directly control the vehicle's system without going through a smartphone. Voice commands allow them to adjust the air conditioning, change the driving mode, modify the ride height, or even open the front trunk.

Extended Features and Integration with Google Calendar

Rivian's assistant goes beyond basic commands. It also offers advanced features such as providing routes, identifying music tracks, reading and summarizing messages, and drafting replies. Users can also obtain weather forecasts and a summary of local news.

Users have the option to ask general questions or seek help for troubleshooting, such as the procedure for changing a tire. In terms of third-party integrations, Google Calendar is the first connected application, allowing users to manage their appointments with simple voice commands. However, the assistant is currently limited to the English language.

European Ambitions with the R2 Model

Although Rivian is currently an exclusively American brand, it harbors ambitions for expansion in Europe. The automaker plans to launch the R2, a compact SUV, in the European market in 2027, a model better suited to the continent's roads and usage. The larger R1T and R1S models from Rivian have never crossed the Atlantic.
