Google recently updated the AI mode of its Chrome browser, introducing a feature that allows users to open links to sources without leaving the current page. This enhancement enables the website in question to be displayed side by side with the AI mode, thus providing the opportunity to ask follow-up questions about the displayed content.
The AI mode, launched last year, is a chatbot-like search feature that appears in a tab on the left side of Google's search engine. Since its launch, Google has added several features to this tool. Among these are the ability to generate images of outfits and decor based on user-provided descriptions, visualizing travel plans, and searching for restaurant reservations.
In response to concerns that AI-powered search features could harm traffic to news publishers and other websites, Google has recently made links to sources more visible. This initiative aims to encourage traffic to the original sites.
For Chrome users, whether on desktop or mobile, it is now possible to select specific tabs from which the AI mode will draw information. This feature is accessible by clicking the "more" button in the AI mode or in Google's search bar, where a list of recent tabs is displayed. The AI mode can also incorporate images or files into these searches.
Currently, these updates to the AI mode are available for users in the United States, with a global rollout planned in the near future.
