Vapi, Amazon Ring's Choice for Call Management

Amazon Ring, faced with an increase in customer support calls during last year's holiday season, evaluated over 40 AI voice providers before selecting Vapi to manage its incoming call traffic. Today, Ring routes 100% of its incoming calls through Vapi's platform. This decision was made in the middle of the fourth quarter of last year, as Ring sought to expand its call center capacity by relying on automated phone systems or AI agents.

Jason Mitura, Vice President of Software Development at Amazon Ring, stated that Ring's customer satisfaction scores improved after deploying Vapi's platform. He emphasized that the company's teams were able to adjust the experience of the AI agents without relying on external engineering. "Many AI tools promise good results — Vapi delivered," he added.

A Significant Fundraising Round

Thanks to this collaboration, Vapi successfully raised $50 million in a Series B round led by Peak XV Partners, reaching a valuation of approximately $500 million post-investment. Jordan Dearsley, CEO of Vapi, highlighted that Ring chose their solution because of the granular control it offers engineers over the behavior of AI agents.

Origins and Evolution of Vapi

Founded by Jordan Dearsley and Nikhil Gupta, Vapi originated from an AI therapist project developed in 2023. The duo had previously participated in Y Combinator with the productivity startup Superpowered. Although the initial product did not find its audience, the low-latency voice infrastructure attracted interest from startups, leading to the creation of Vapi in 2024.

Diverse Tools for Businesses

Vapi provides tools for businesses to build, deploy, and manage voice agents for customer support, lead qualification, appointment scheduling, and outbound sales. The startup claims to have managed over 1 billion calls through its platform, with usage accelerating as companies shift more customer interactions to AI systems.

Vapi currently processes between 1 million and 5 million calls per day, with enterprise clients representing the majority of this volume.

A Diverse Clientele and Self-Service Development

In addition to Amazon Ring, Vapi's enterprise clients include Kavak, Instawork, New York Life, UnityAI, Cherry, and Intuit. Vapi's self-service development platform has been used by over 1 million developers, allowing the startup to be tested at scale before signing its first major enterprise client.

Expansion Supported by Major Investors

In addition to Peak XV Partners, the Series B attracted investors such as M12 from Microsoft, Kleiner Perkins, and Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing the total funding to $72 million. Vapi is currently at an annual recurring revenue rate in the 'eight figures', deemed 'healthy' by an investor source.

Strategic Positioning in a Growing Sector

Vapi is part of a growing wave of AI voice startups that includes Sierra, Decagon, PolyAI, Bland, Retell, and ElevenLabs. The startup stands out by focusing on the infrastructure and orchestration layer behind voice agents, offering businesses greater control over reliability, compliance, and model behavior. With around 100 employees, Vapi plans to use the new funding to expand its engineering, infrastructure, and go-to-market teams.
