The Kiwibit Bird Feeder Pro 4K AI Camera recently made its debut in my garden, quickly becoming an essential part of my outdoor space. This smart feeder, powered by artificial intelligence, stands out for its easy installation thanks to multiple mounting options, whether on a pole, a windowsill, or a tree. It is designed with two seed compartments, simplifying both filling and cleaning.
One of the major advantages of this device is its solar panel, which eliminates the need for regular battery replacements. The built-in camera is not only durable but also offers impressive image quality, featuring a 130-degree wide-angle lens and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. It is also equipped with two-way audio, allowing for sound interaction with feathered visitors, and offers cloud storage to keep recordings.
The companion Kiwibit app, accessible from a smartphone, allows users to receive notifications with each bird visit. It provides the ability to view recordings and track visits in real-time. After a few weeks of use, I was able to observe and record visits from six different species, including a northern cardinal, which has become a regular and anticipated visitor each morning.
The app utilizes Kiwibit's proprietary bird recognition algorithm, capable of identifying over 10,000 species, such as blue jays and crows. The Activity tab in the app is particularly useful for tracking the number of captured visits, recorded videos, and observed species. It is even possible to consult a calendar to revisit specific days. The Birds tab provides detailed descriptions of each species, enriched with information from Wikipedia.
However, the system sometimes presents inaccuracies in counting visits. For example, a house sparrow that lingers in front of the camera may be recorded as multiple visits, even if it hasn't moved. An amusing notification I regularly receive is "a nuisance animal detected" when squirrels attack my seed supply, which happens frequently.
In summary, the Kiwibit Bird Feeder Pro offers an enriching experience for anyone looking to connect with nature while having fun identifying and collecting bird species, much like Pokémon. However, one should also expect squirrels to come and enjoy the seeds.
