Back in February, he predicted that professions such as lawyers, accountants, and project managers could be completely replaced by AI. However, he has since softened his remarks.

A Distinction Between Tasks and Jobs

In a recent appearance on The Verge's Decoder podcast, Suleyman clarified his thoughts by emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between tasks and jobs. According to him, AI is more likely to replace specific tasks rather than entire jobs. He noted that AI will make minor administrative tasks within companies "increasingly digitized and automated."

AI as an Automation Tool

Suleyman now views AI primarily as an automation tool, aimed at optimizing minor administrative tasks in businesses. This perspective aligns with that of other industry leaders, such as Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, who has also revised his forecasts. Altman stated, "I thought there would have been more impact on entry-level white-collar jobs being eliminated by this point than what has actually happened."

These revisions provide a more nuanced perspective on the future of employment, alleviating fears of a massive job loss due to AI, often referred to as the "job apocalypse."
