The Growing Importance of Interpersonal Skills
Ryan Roslansky, CEO of LinkedIn, highlights the increasing importance of interpersonal skills in the age of artificial intelligence. He identifies four key skills to develop: curiosity, courage, communication, and compassion. According to him, these skills are becoming essential as AI takes over routine tasks.
Roslansky sees this evolution as an opportunity for humans to dream big and collaborate more positively with technology. He emphasizes that, while he has a broad view of the job market thanks to LinkedIn's data, he did not provide specific figures to support his claims.
A Contrasting Vision with Silicon Valley
Roslansky's perspective contrasts with that of several figures in Silicon Valley. For example, Vinod Khosla, an investor in OpenAI, has predicted that today's children will not need to work. Boris Cherny, creator of Claude from Anthropic, announced that the title of "software developer" will disappear this year. Meanwhile, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, hopes that well-paid engineers will spend half of their salary on AI tokens.
An Optimistic Approach to AI
Roslansky takes a less alarmist approach, stating that AI is transforming the perception of work. He invites people to consider professional roles as a collection of tasks rather than a fixed title. He divides these tasks into three categories: those that AI can automate, those that it can augment, and those that remain deeply human, such as resolving conflicts, persuading a team, or defining a strategy.
He insists that these skills, although historically considered soft skills, are crucial in today’s professional world. AI frees up time for human interactions, emphasizing communication, judgment, and emotional intelligence.
An Optimistic Yet Cautious Vision
While Roslansky is optimistic about the future of AI, he acknowledges the uncertainties. "Sometimes, when you are immersed in technology, especially with AI, it leads you to dark places," he admits. Nevertheless, he believes that humans have an essential role in guiding the direction that this technology should take.
