Legora Strengthens Its Strategy with an Atlassian Expert
Legora, a Swedish startup specializing in software development for the legal sector, has recently made a strategic move by hiring Zeynep Inanoglu Ozdemir, the former marketing director of Atlassian. This recruitment aims to bolster Legora's position in a highly competitive market, where it competes with companies like Harvey, a major player in Silicon Valley. Inanoglu Ozdemir's mission is to make Legora a household name in the legal field while facing the challenge of appealing to a clientele of lawyers known for their caution and high standards.
Lawyers, often cautious and meticulous, represent a challenging target for artificial intelligence proposals. However, Legora has decided to take on this challenge by appointing Inanoglu Ozdemir as its first marketing director, tasked with making the startup a prominent name in the legal industry. On her second day at the Stockholm office, Inanoglu Ozdemir shared her impressions: “I spoke to all the lawyers I had worked with in the past. They told me: the law is changing, and Legora has a chance to shape its future.”
A Bold Transition to a Promising Startup
Before joining Legora, Inanoglu Ozdemir led a team of 450 people at Atlassian, known for its products like Jira and Trello. Her departure coincides with a reorganization at Atlassian around artificial intelligence, resulting in layoffs and executive departures. At Legora, she enters a smaller structure but with significant growth potential. The company has experienced rapid expansion, growing from 40 to 400 employees in a year, and continues to attract new talent.
Legora has already attracted prestigious firms such as Cleary Gottlieb and HSF Kramer, and aims for a multi-billion dollar market opportunity by providing software for contract drafting and legal research. The startup has raised over $850 million, reaching a valuation of $5.6 billion, although Harvey is valued at $11 billion. Renowned investors like Accel and General Catalyst support Legora's founder, Max Junestrand, further enhancing the startup's credibility and ambition.
A Bold and Innovative Marketing Strategy
To stand out, Legora is investing in its visibility. Earlier this year, it launched an advertising campaign featuring actor Jude Law and engaged in sports sponsorships, including with a professional Swedish golfer. These initiatives aim to position Legora not just as a niche software provider, but as a category leader. Inanoglu Ozdemir emphasized that during comparative testing with competitors, Legora converts 78% of trials into long-term contracts. Her role is to increase Legora's visibility so that more law firms consider testing its solutions.
A Bet on the Future of Artificial Intelligence
Inanoglu Ozdemir is convinced that AI agents will transform professional services, including law. She chose to join Legora to be at the forefront of this transformation, preferring the dynamism of a startup to the stability of a large corporation. "The brand is becoming almost a chasm," she stated, highlighting the importance of credibility in a sector where trust is essential. This bold approach reflects a desire to position herself as a key player in the technological evolution of the legal industry.
