Mark Cuban, the well-known investor from "Shark Tank," recently shared his perspective on how Lovable and Replit, vibe-coding companies, manage to stand out in a market dominated by AI giants like Anthropic and OpenAI. According to Cuban, Lovable and Replit are not just competing with these major AI labs, but they are also offering complementary services that alter the competitive dynamics. The CEO of Lovable emphasized that many clients are beginning to see the tool as a true "AI co-founder," which strengthens its market position.
Vibe-coding companies, such as Lovable and Replit, face intense competition from renowned AI labs. Lovable has already taken a stance by asserting that it directly competes with the major AI labs, rather than with other vibe-coding companies. Mark Cuban, who has invested in Lovable, believes that these companies have a distinct advantage due to their complementary services.
During a conference in Paris, Cuban explained that AI coding services like Lovable and Replit have features that could protect them from being replaced by AI labs. He discussed with Anton Osika, the CEO of Lovable, highlighting that these platforms offer much more than just a coding tool. They provide localized databases that are useful not only for startups and entrepreneurs but also for any company looking to grow. Cuban specifically stated, "When we question a lot of the interfaces like Lovable, Replit, etc., we wonder if the foundational models, the big players are just going to replace them."
Cuban was referring to Osika's comments, who explained that Lovable has evolved from a simple code-writing tool to a comprehensive platform. Founders can now use Lovable to incorporate their businesses and manage their payment systems. This evolution has led users to see Lovable not just as a product, but as an essential partner in their entrepreneurial journey. Osika stated, "People saw us as an AI software engineer, the product. Now, what we are increasingly seeing is that people view Lovable as their partner, as literally their AI co-founder."
Cuban's remarks come at a time when the products of vibe-coding startups are often compared to solutions like Claude Code from Anthropic. Since the launch of Opus 4.6 by Anthropic, many founders and developers have expressed on X their intention to leave services like Cursor and Lovable for Claude Code.
Founders and investors are often concerned about comparing AI applications, such as vibe-coding tools, with the capabilities of large language models. They fear that their products may not be able to compete with the new features developed by Anthropic or OpenAI. Lovable is aware of this threat and is striving to adapt.
In a March podcast, Elena Verna, head of growth at Lovable, expressed her concerns regarding the major players in the industry. She stated that she is more worried about giants like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Apple, rather than emerging competitors. According to her, the distribution capabilities of these tech giants and leading labs are unmatched, posing a significant challenge for Lovable.
