Meta has recently decided to suspend its partnership with the AI training startup Mercor, following a data breach. This decision comes as Mercor confirmed it had fallen victim to a security incident. The startup, which achieved an impressive valuation of $10 billion during a recent funding round in October, is known for providing training data to large companies through a vast network of contractors and human experts.
The first alert regarding Meta's suspension was reported by Wired, and a source close to the matter confirmed the information to Business Insider. However, Meta has chosen not to publicly comment on the current situation.
Mercor clarified that the security incident is related to a supply chain attack involving LiteLLM, an open-source project. In a statement, the company emphasized the importance it places on the privacy and security of its clients and contractors. It also stated that its security team responded swiftly to contain the incident and that a thorough investigation is underway, supported by leading third-party forensic experts. Meta, for its part, is also conducting an investigation following this data breach.
