Microsoft Stops Xbox Copilot AI
Microsoft has decided to halt the development of the Copilot AI on Xbox, an announcement made by the new CEO of Xbox, Asha Sharma, this Tuesday. This decision comes as part of a reorganization of the Xbox platform team, which took place earlier in the day of the announcement, and saw the integration of executives from Microsoft’s CoreAI team, where Sharma previously worked before taking the helm at Xbox.
Asha Sharma expressed on X the need for Xbox to accelerate its pace, strengthen its ties with the community, and reduce barriers for players and developers. She stated, "Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while integrating new voices to help us move forward. This balance is important as we get the company back on track."
In this context of change, certain features, including Copilot, will be removed as they no longer align with the new strategic direction. The development of Copilot on mobile and console will thus be gradually discontinued.
Since taking office in February, succeeding Phil Spencer, Sharma has already initiated notable changes, such as the abandonment of the Microsoft Gaming brand and the reduction of the Xbox Game Pass price. Microsoft had heavily invested in Copilot for Gaming last year, announcing in March that this feature would be available on current generation consoles this year, a project that will ultimately not come to fruition.
