A colossal investment making waves
Last month, OpenAI made headlines by announcing a fundraising round of $110 billion. Among the investors, Amazon committed $50 billion. This deal would allow OpenAI to utilize Amazon's cloud services, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which has sparked tensions with Microsoft, OpenAI's long-time partner.
Microsoft sees red
Microsoft, which has historically collaborated with OpenAI, views this deal with Amazon unfavorably. According to the Financial Times, Microsoft is considering suing OpenAI. The partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft stipulates that access to the startup's models must occur through Microsoft's cloud platform, Azure.
Towards an amicable resolution?
For now, no legal action has been initiated. Discussions are ongoing between the leaders of the companies involved to try to resolve this dispute without going to court. A source from the Financial Times stated, "We will sue them if they do not respect this agreement. If Amazon and OpenAI want to bet on the creativity of their lawyers, I would bet on us, not on them. We know our contract."
