Microsoft Tests PC Insights: Copilot Analyzes Slowdowns

Microsoft is testing PC Insights, a feature that tasks Copilot with explaining why your machine is slowing down. The assistant uses up to 1 GB of RAM. The diagnostic promises to be interesting.

Slow PCs are an endless source of frustration, and Microsoft believes it has found the right interlocutor to discuss this: its in-house assistant. The specialized media outlet Windows Latest has spotted references to a feature called PC Insights in the code of the Copilot application, which Microsoft has confirmed is being gradually rolled out in the United States. The idea is simple: ask a question in natural language ("What is slowing down my PC?") and let the AI check the machine's status to provide an answer.

PC Insights, a Health Check in Natural Language

In practical terms, the feature allows Copilot to read the status of system resources:

• graphics card
• storage
• battery
• network
• connected devices

The user gives their consent, asks their question, and the assistant delivers the information in a conversational manner, without going through the configuration panels that no one ever opens (admit it, you don’t either).

It's hard to ignore the measurements taken by Windows Latest: barely opened, with no tasks running, Copilot occupied nearly 800 MB of memory on a 32 GB machine, and its consumption can rise to 1 GB during active use. The reason has been known since the spring redesign: the application includes a private copy of Microsoft Edge, to the point of appearing in the Task Manager under the browser category. The old native application, on the other hand, remained under 100 MB. A ratio of ten to one, for the same button in the taskbar.

Copilot the Scholar, Copilot the Powerless

Before entrusting your machine to Doctor Copilot, a clarification is necessary regarding the nature of the consultation. PC Insights reads a status; it does not establish a cause: knowing that memory is occupied at 90% does not indicate which faulty process deserves uninstallation, nor whether the culprit is a driver, an application, or the system itself. This may be useful for novices who do not know where Windows keeps this information, but it is insufficient to replace real troubleshooting.
