Full Analysis

For the past five years, artificial intelligence has taken a prominent role in the field of structural biology, particularly in predicting protein conformation from their sequence. These predictions are made at a speed far exceeding that of traditional experimental methods.

However, a team from the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, under the auspices of the DOE, has taken a different approach. With the development of MOLEXA, an innovative generative model, they have succeeded in reconstructing the three-dimensional geometry of molecules. This feat is accomplished using fragments obtained during a Coulomb explosion, a phenomenon induced by the use of X-rays.
