A Solution to Centralize AI Tools
As artificial intelligence services proliferate around the world, managing them can quickly become a headache. It is in this context that the application Noi positions itself as an essential tool to simplify access to these technologies.
The Advantages of Noi According to ZDNET
For users juggling multiple AI services, Noi presents itself as an ideal solution. It allows for the consolidation of several services within a single user interface, thereby facilitating their management. The installation of this system is free and offers the possibility to connect to various AI services.
Although I generally prefer using locally installed AI tools for various reasons, 99% of the time, I recognize the utility of an application like Noi that significantly simplifies access to these services.
A Comprehensive and Intuitive Interface
Noi is a graphical application that brings together all AI services, and much more, in one place. It offers simplified access to popular services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, among others.
The application also provides interesting features, including:
- Multi-window management for smooth navigation
- Session isolation for enhanced security
- Local data retention for history and prompts
- An integrated terminal for executing local commands
- Multiple themes to customize the interface
I even used the integrated terminal to access my locally installed Ollama instance, showcasing the application's flexibility. For certain services like Gemini and Perplexity, no connection is required, although discussion synchronization does necessitate authentication.
Personalized and Flexible Usage
By using Noi, I was able to keep multiple tabs open for DeepWiki, Perplexity, Gemini, and GitHub. With the Ollama command line, everything I needed was accessible in one place. While I spend the majority of my time with local Ollama, the ability to access other services from a single interface is a significant advantage.
Even though I would like to integrate Ollama into the graphical interface, I am accustomed to using it via the command line, which poses no major issues.
Managing Spaces in Noi
When you launch Noi, the sidebar is filled with various services, constituting the default space. You have the option to create additional spaces and customize them with the services of your choice, thereby optimizing the efficiency of the user interface. Each space can be configured with different services, allowing for easy switching between them as needed.
To create a new space, simply click on the Spaces icon in the bottom toolbar and select +. Name your space and click Save.
Once the space is created, you can manually add the desired services by entering the corresponding URL. For example, to add ChatGPT, click on the link icon at the top left of the sidebar, name it, and then enter https://www.chatgpt.com as the address.
I was able to add an "official" instance of Ollama, running via a local server with WebUI, at the address http://192.168.1.25:3000. This setup worked well, and I primarily plan to use this approach with Noi.
While it would be convenient for Noi to allow for easily pinning services to a new space, this feature is not yet available.
Installing Noi
Noi is compatible with Linux, MacOS, and Windows. You can download the installation file for your preferred operating system from the official Noi page. The installation process is straightforward and should pose no issues, allowing you to install Noi like any other application on your system.
