OnlyOffice Documents 9.4: Mistral AI and New Features on iOS
OnlyOffice has recently launched version 9.4 of its Documents app for iOS, integrating Mistral AI, an open-source artificial intelligence provider. This update, available for free on the App Store since June 1, coincides with the Android version, released the following day. Meanwhile, the desktop version has also seen improvements, including a clarification of the AGPLv3 license.
Mistral AI: An Asset for Data Security
The main addition in this update is the integration of Mistral AI, accessible directly in the document and spreadsheet editors via the menu AI > Settings > Add a Model > Mistral AI. This feature allows users to perform tasks such as content generation, text rephrasing, and data analysis without leaving the app. As a French company, Mistral AI is subject to European law and GDPR, unlike models from OpenAI or Google, which often use American servers. Additionally, some Mistral models can be deployed on internal servers, ensuring that documents do not leave the company's infrastructure, which is an advantage for those prioritizing data security.
Increased Control with the Disabling of Auto-Save
Another significant new feature is the ability to disable the auto-save of cloud files. Instead of synchronizing every change in real-time with services like OnlyOffice DocSpace, Nextcloud, or Dropbox, users can now choose when to send their changes via Settings > Autosave. This feature offers greater control over data, allowing users to manage their backups according to their specific needs.
Interface and Content Improvements
The app has also optimized comment management, which can now be sorted by date, author, or display order, and filtered according to various criteria. On iPhone, quick actions have been reorganized for better accessibility, making frequently used tools easier to reach on a small screen.
On the content side, it is now possible to insert multiple images simultaneously into a document, spreadsheet, or presentation. The text editor offers line numbering, while the presentation editor benefits from new visual themes and the ability to change slide orientation between portrait and landscape directly from the app.
OnlyOffice, while primarily aimed at businesses, offers a free version for individuals, allowing the creation of Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents, and forms. The app stands out for its ergonomics, self-hosting capabilities, and focus on security, catering to users concerned about data management.
