Claude from Anthropic Challenges Copilot in Microsoft 365

Users of Microsoft 365 now have a promising alternative to Copilot for AI assistance in their documents. Claude, developed by Anthropic, integrates into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, offering a unified and interconnected experience.

To benefit from Claude, it is necessary to download the specific add-ins via the Microsoft Marketplace. Once installed, these add-ins add a Claude icon to the ribbon of each application, allowing easy access to AI features. Microsoft recommends using a work or school account to log in, although a personal account also works.

Features of Claude

With Claude, it is possible to request complex tasks, such as generating a PowerPoint presentation from Excel data or creating a Word document based on a PowerPoint presentation. This ability to interact across multiple applications is a major asset.

Practical Use

Installing Claude is straightforward: after downloading the add-in, the user must log in to activate the AI. For example, to proofread a Word document, Claude offers detailed suggestions, often more precise than those of Word's built-in editor. During one proofreading session, Claude highlighted eight suggested corrections or modifications.

In Excel, Claude can create charts from data tables, adding columns that show category and total to facilitate comparison. In PowerPoint, Claude can enhance the appearance and content of presentations. When asked to improve a presentation, Claude questioned the use of the term 'improve', asking what type of visual transformation was desired, and sought approval before applying strong changes.
