Mistral AI: 22 Measures for Europe Against the AI Giants
Mistral AI, a French unicorn valued at €11.7 billion, has unveiled a series of 22 measures aimed at strengthening Europe's position in the field of artificial intelligence. These proposals seek to counter the advances of American and Chinese giants and ensure a digitally autonomous future for the continent.
Attracting Talent and Structuring the Market
Among the key measures, Mistral AI proposes the creation of an "AI blue card," a simplified residence permit to facilitate the arrival of foreign researchers and developers in Europe. Inspired by the European Blue Card, this initiative aims to address the local skills shortage by attracting the best global talent, often drawn to the United States or China.
Mistral AI also emphasizes the importance of structuring a local market for European talent. According to the company, while Europe has the necessary skills and funding, it struggles to organize a market capable of competing with the United States, where 80% of the $1.4 trillion invested in digital is directed.
European Preference and Data Management
The company insists on the need to prioritize local infrastructures in public markets and proposes tax incentives to encourage their use. Mistral AI also highlights data management, suggesting the centralization of works that have entered the public domain to train AI models more effectively. This would reduce dependence on foreign platforms and support the creation of a truly European AI.
Investments and Financial Goals
To support these initiatives, Mistral AI has raised $830 million in debt, intended for the construction of a data center in France. The startup aims to exceed €1 billion in revenue by 2026. These projects seek to use public procurement and local infrastructures as strategic levers to strengthen European sovereignty and enhance the attractiveness of AI on the continent.
Mistral AI's proposals are already attracting the attention of industry players and fueling the debate on technological sovereignty. For companies, this means that AI projects will now need to incorporate a strong European vision, thereby reducing dependence on foreign giants and boosting competitiveness.
