Sêmeia Raises 21 Million Euros to Boost Medical Telemonitoring
The French startup Sêmeia has just completed a funding round of 21 million euros. This operation was led by Acton Capital, XAnge via Mutuelles Impact, and Citizen Capital, with participation from historical investors such as Banque des Territoires and Orange Ventures.
An Innovative Telemonitoring Platform
Founded in 2017 in Toulouse by Mathieu Godart, Pierre Hornus, and Daniel Szeftel, Sêmeia has developed a medical telemonitoring platform. This solution, named MedicWise, is designed for monitoring patients with chronic diseases. Currently, it is deployed in over 500 healthcare facilities and monitors 35,000 patients.
MedicWise collects data from various sources such as biological analysis laboratories, connected medical devices, and reimbursement histories from Assurance Maladie. This information is analyzed to detect anomalies or deteriorations between medical consultations, allowing alerts to be sent to healthcare teams.
Expansion and Integration of Artificial Intelligence
Initially focused on nephrology and transplantation, Sêmeia has expanded its scope to include pulmonology, rheumatology, oncology, and mental health. In 2022, the company had already raised 8 million euros and acquired the competitor Optim’Care to strengthen its position in the telemonitoring of chronic kidney diseases.
With this new funding round, Sêmeia plans to extend its services to new medical specialties and develop features based on artificial intelligence. The company also intends to continue its strategy of external growth.
A Rapidly Evolving Market
The medical telemonitoring sector is evolving rapidly, driven by an aging population, the increase in chronic conditions, and growing pressure on hospital systems. Platforms capable of centralizing and utilizing longitudinal clinical data are increasingly seen as essential tools for coordinating care pathways. The integration of artificial intelligence is becoming a central focus, enabling the development of predictive models to anticipate complications, prioritize alerts, and automate part of clinical monitoring.
