Snowflake Expands Its AI Platforms
Snowflake recently announced the expansion of its artificial intelligence platforms, Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code, aimed at boosting AI usage among its users. Snowflake Intelligence is designed for general business professionals, while Cortex Code targets developers and technical teams. According to the company's press release, these platforms will benefit from new features, including increased integrations with third-party software. Enhancements have also been made to automation capabilities and simplified methods for creating AI workflows.
Features for Non-Technical Users
Snowflake Intelligence is designed to enable non-technical users to perform tasks within their existing business workflows. Using a large language model (LLM), users can describe in natural language the actions they wish to take, and the system executes those tasks. Potential applications include preparing presentations, multi-step analyses, and sending follow-up messages. Data can be extracted from various internal and external sources through pre-built connectors. Queries and workflows are subject to strict access permission and governance restrictions to prevent data loss.
Interfaces using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) are available, and integrations with Google, Jira, Salesforce, and Slack have been added. An iOS application for Snowflake Intelligence is also in development and will soon be available for public preview. Snowflake claims that its intelligence platform is becoming more personalized over time, learning from user behaviors. Users will be able to save and share workflows so that work can be reused. Longer context windows mean that users addressing the large language model should not have to repeat lengthy contextual prompts to achieve the desired results. The updates were made following feedback from Project SnowWork, a research initiative launched last month to showcase the platform and gather user preferences regarding features they would like to see in an AI platform.
Enhancements for Developers
Cortex Code is designed for software development teams, offering a coding and orchestration layer with new integration options. It now supports AWS Glue, Databricks, and Postgres. Additionally, it can connect to other language models via the MCP and the Agent Communication Protocol (ACP). For VS Code users, Cortex Code will soon be available as an extension, currently in private preview. A plugin for Claude Code is also in development. The Software Development Kit for Python and TypeScript allows integration of Cortex Code functions into custom applications.
The Cloud Agents, currently in private preview, will be integrated into Snowsight, Snowflake's web interface. The Plan Mode will allow users to preview and approve workflows before they are executed by the AI. Currently, over 9,100 customers use Snowflake's AI products each week. Since the launch of these platforms six months ago, more than half of the company's clients have adopted Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code.
Snowflake's approach, targeting both general business users and development teams, aims to strengthen its market position while expanding the adoption of its platforms. The new software integrations, mobile application, and browser-based options are expected to attract a broader and more diverse audience. Sameer Vuyyuru, Director of AI and Products at Capita, emphasized Snowflake's importance in the secure deployment of AI, highlighting performance, compliance, and trust in highly regulated services.
