After facing criticism following a demonstration of its AI Photo Assistant on the Xperia 1 III smartphone, Sony is seeking to clarify how this technology works. The company emphasizes that the tool does not directly alter photos but offers improvement suggestions based on parameters such as lighting, depth, and the subject of the photo. By simply pointing the camera at an object, the user receives four options to adjust exposure, color, and background blur.
In a promotional video, Sony claims that the AI Photo Assistant is capable of suggesting "the most photogenic angle." However, the content of the video is limited to zoom recommendations, without genuinely offering shooting angles, which has been noted by observers.
The examples of photos published by Sony on the X platform have also faced criticism. Although these images are an improvement over those shared on May 14, they still exhibit notable flaws. The suggestions provided by the AI Photo Assistant are deemed inferior to the original photos, with issues such as excessive saturation, overly retouched rendering, and overly high contrast.
For users of the Xperia 1 III, it seems advisable not to rely on the recommendations of the AI Photo Assistant for the time being, due to the unsatisfactory results observed.
