This strategic partnership aims to deploy a million orbital data centers, an ambition already taking shape through significant contracts with giants like Anthropic and Google, who plan to leverage the computing power offered by SpaceX.

AI1: The Next-Generation Satellite

In a 30-minute video, Elon Musk, accompanied by Ian Dahl, SpaceX's satellite engineering director, presented the AI1 satellite. This impressive satellite, with a wingspan of 70 meters and a height of 20 meters, is designed for high-performance computing. It is capable of delivering an average computing power of 120 kW, with peaks reaching 150 kW, representing a phenomenal energy density of 70 kW per ton.

To power these satellites, SpaceX relies on high-efficiency solar panels manufactured in its facilities in Bastrop, Texas. The management of heat dissipation, a major technical challenge, is ensured by a deployable liquid radiator of 110 square meters, designed to be fully redundant and protected against micrometeoroids. Additionally, the system is entirely modular, allowing SpaceX to replace AI chips based on technological advancements, thus avoiding any premature obsolescence.

Towards a Lunar Economy

To launch this ambitious infrastructure, SpaceX is banking on the unprecedented payload capacity of its Starship vehicle, even though it is not yet operational. The company is already envisioning a true lunar economy, with the manufacturing of these devices directly on our natural satellite. By harnessing solar energy and local resources from the Moon, SpaceX could become the essential computing factory for the AIs of tomorrow.
