Triomics Raises $22 Million for Innovative Oncology AI
The startup Triomics recently raised $22 million in a Series B funding round, aiming to introduce an artificial intelligence platform specifically designed for oncology in cancer treatment centers. This funding was led by Battery Ventures, with support from recurring partners such as Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator.
Triomics is developing a platform that aims to alleviate the administrative burden on oncologists and medical staff by automating complex tasks such as matching patients to clinical trials and preparing appointments. Advances in oncology allow patients to live longer, creating dense, multi-year medical records that healthcare personnel must review and decipher.
A typical medical record includes physician progress notes, imaging and pathology reports, and even faxed scans. Sarim Khan, co-founder of Triomics, stated that he has seen medical records with thousands of pages of information, highlighting the need for an automated solution.
An Evolving Platform
Founded in 2021, Triomics had already raised $15 million in Series A funding by mid-2024. Since then, the startup has expanded its capabilities, integrating verifiable patient summaries into its platform. These summaries, which highlight key information, are directly accessible within the tools already used by clinicians, without requiring any application changes.
This innovation reduces appointment preparation time, thus providing oncologists with more time to interact with their patients. This is crucial in the field of oncology, where the complexity of medical histories and staff burnout are ongoing challenges.
A Specialized Tool for Cancer Centers
Triomics is also employed to automate the submission of tumor reports to government registries, a mandatory task for cancer centers. While generic AI agents can produce basic summaries, prestigious institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering and the Yale Cancer Center prefer Triomics for its specialization in oncology. Triomics' models are specifically trained on oncology data, according to Khan.
Triomics' direct competition includes solutions like Abridge and Microsoft’s Nuance, which use AI to document conversations between doctors and patients. Despite this competition, Triomics has quadrupled its enterprise customer base and has seen its annual recurring revenue increase tenfold over the past year.
