Google Unveils Gemini Intelligence to Transform the Android Experience
Google recently introduced Gemini Intelligence, a new artificial intelligence that promises to transform the use of Android smartphones. By choosing a name similar to Apple's AI, Google clearly signals its intention to compete with its rival by offering advanced automation integrated into the Android ecosystem.
Advanced Automation to Simplify Daily Life
The core element of Gemini Intelligence lies in its ability to automate daily tasks seamlessly. For instance, if you want to organize a dinner for six people on a Friday night, Gemini can search for a restaurant, check availability, make the reservation, and notify you once everything is set. This automation relies on two distinct approaches:
-
AppFunctions: This new framework allows developers to expose certain features of their applications directly to Gemini. For example, on a Samsung Galaxy S26, you can ask Gemini to show you specific photos, like those of your cat, without opening the gallery app.
-
User Interface Automation: For applications that have not yet integrated AppFunctions, Gemini can simulate human interactions by pressing buttons, filling out fields, or navigating menus. This enables the AI to function across any application, even if the developer has not yet integrated the framework.
Google has spent several months working with food delivery and ride-hailing apps to refine these uses. Google's long-term vision is to expand these capabilities to allow Gemini to retrieve information from Gmail, prepare purchases, or chain actions across multiple services from a single articulated intention.
Rambler: A Revolution in Voice Dictation
In addition to automation, Gemini Intelligence incorporates Rambler, a feature that significantly enhances voice dictation. Rambler is capable of capturing natural speech, with all its hesitations and approximations, and transforming it into clear and coherent text. This feature supports multiple languages within the same message, which is particularly useful for users juggling different languages.
Deployment and Availability of Gemini Intelligence
The deployment of Gemini Intelligence will begin this summer on the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10, but only in the United States and South Korea. For now, the features will be limited to three categories of applications: food delivery, grocery shopping, and ride-hailing.
The true expansion of Gemini Intelligence is expected with the release of Android 17, scheduled around the start of the 2026 school year. This update will open these capabilities to all manufacturers and developers. The user interface will also evolve with Material 3 Expressive, a new visual language designed to subtly indicate when Gemini is active and to reduce distractions.
Security and User Control
Google places a strong emphasis on ensuring user security and control. Sensitive actions, such as purchases or final confirmations, always require explicit user validation. Additionally, data processing occurs locally on the device, not on a remote server. Users can track Gemini's actions in real-time and regain control at any moment if necessary. To enhance this transparency, Google has integrated a message in the application code indicating that the user is responsible for the AI's actions on their behalf.
Gemini Intelligence is a native AI agent for Android, capable of acting within your applications without the need for you to open them. Its initial deployment is set for this summer on the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10, with broader integration expected with Android 17.
