X: End of Free Access to Grok
The use of the Grok artificial intelligence on the social network X had become a common practice for many users. Indeed, it was enough to mention Grok in a reply to obtain information or verifications on a given topic. However, this feature, once free, is no longer accessible without a subscription.
Elon Musk had skillfully integrated Grok into X, allowing users to easily interact with the AI. By simply mentioning Grok with an at sign, users could ask all sorts of questions. This capability was widely exploited to confirm or complement information shared on the platform. However, it seems that the free nature of this service was not intended to last.
Paid Access to Grok
Now, to query Grok on X, it is necessary to be subscribed to a paid service. The famous “Ask Grok” had gained popularity to the point of becoming a recurring phenomenon on the platform, even generating some annoyance among users. This feature had become a running gag on Elon Musk's social network.
With the new policy, non-subscribed users will receive a message stating that “Ask Grok is currently available only for Premium and Premium+ subscribers. Subscribe to unlock this feature.”
Silence from X on the Change
This change has been quietly integrated into the subscription options for Premium and Premium+ users. A new feature, “Tag @Grok in replies,” is now visible for these subscribers. Curiously, X has not officially communicated about this modification, implementing it without any public announcement.
Subscription Prices
For those who have taken a liking to using Grok, it is crucial to note that the Premium subscription costs 8 euros per month, while the Premium+ is offered at 38 euros per month. This latter price has increased since February, rising from 25 euros to its current price. This hike could be an attempt to justify the exclusivity of a feature favored by users.
