Adobe Introduces an AI Assistant for Photoshop

Adobe has recently unveiled a new artificial intelligence-based assistant for its renowned software Photoshop. Available now in beta, this assistant is accessible on both web and mobile platforms. This initiative aligns with Adobe's strategy to integrate advanced AI technologies into its creative tools, particularly through Firefly, its media generation and editing tool.

During the MAX event in October, Adobe had already showcased this AI assistant, which is now in the deployment phase. This new tool allows users to make various modifications to their images in a simplified manner. With natural language commands, users can remove objects or people, adjust colors, or even modify lighting. The AI assistant also offers the ability to add a soft light effect, crop images to specific formats, and transform backgrounds to give photos a fresh look.

Adobe has clarified the usage conditions for this new feature: paid subscribers of Photoshop can enjoy unlimited generations until April 9. In contrast, users of the free version have 20 generations to explore the capabilities of the AI assistant.

AI Markup Feature and Firefly Innovations

In parallel, Adobe has introduced an innovative feature called AI Markup, currently in public beta. This feature allows users to draw markers directly on the screen to transform objects with the help of the AI assistant. For example, users can draw a flower or mark an object to be removed for an intuitive background modification.

Adobe is not stopping there and is also enhancing Firefly, its media creation tool, with new image editing features. Firefly now incorporates Generative Fill, a technology already present in Photoshop, which allows users to replace or add objects while modifying the background accordingly.

Among the new features of Firefly are generative removal, which enables the removal of unwanted objects, as well as a generative expansion function to increase image sizes using AI. Additionally, a generative scaling feature has been added, along with a one-click tool to remove backgrounds from images, simplifying the editing process.

In February, Adobe announced that Firefly subscribers would benefit from unlimited generations, encouraging more intensive use of the tool. Since then, the company has expanded its offering by adding over 25 third-party video and image generation models, such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro.
