Alibaba's new Qwen model is also taking your job, but this time, it's good news.
Alibaba is taking a very different marketing approach with its new AI model compared to OpenAI or Anthropic. Instead of threatening people with job losses, a promotional video presents the idea of delegating tasks as something appealing. Qwen 3.8 does the work while humans focus on their leisure activities. Alibaba distances itself from the fear-based messaging that other AI companies favor, where the emphasis is often on the number of jobs that will soon disappear.
Alibaba simplifies both the actual impact of AI on the job market and the apocalyptic scenarios of its competitors. However, a positive approach seems much more advantageous for a publicly traded company. OpenAI and Anthropic have also recognized this and have begun to adopt a much softer tone. So far, there is no evidence that AI has a major impact on the job market or even on productivity. Financial markets, on the other hand, tell a different story.
