Alexa Plus: A New Era for AI-Generated Podcasts
Amazon recently announced a major advancement for its AI assistant, Alexa Plus, which can now create AI-generated podcasts on a variety of topics. This feature allows users to suggest a theme to Alexa Plus, which then provides an overview of the subjects its AI hosts will cover. Users have the option to steer the conversation and set the duration of the episode before it is created.
Diverse and Customizable Topics
Among the examples of "Alexa podcasts" shared by Amazon are discussions between AI-generated hosts on the history of the Roman Empire, new music releases, and expectations for the World Cup. Users can also ask Alexa Plus to create audio lessons on topics like the Apollo missions or to develop an episode on a new hobby such as photography. This feature is reminiscent of AI-generated podcasts available through NotebookLM and recently integrated into Microsoft Edge.
Collaboration with Renowned Media
The podcast episodes generated by Alexa Plus rely on information from 200 partner news publications, including Reuters, the Associated Press, the Washington Post, Vox, and Politico. Alexa Plus, rolled out to all U.S. users since February, is now integrated into Amazon's online marketplace.
Easy Access to Episodes
Once a podcast episode is generated, users receive a notification on their Echo Show device and in the Alexa app. They can listen to the episode by tapping the notification or by accessing the "Music and More" section on the Echo Show, or via the Alexa app.
