Anthropic Unveils Claude Opus 4.8 and Prepares Claude Mythos
Anthropic, known for its AI model Claude, has recently announced the release of Claude Opus 4.8. This model promises improved performance and, according to evaluations, it surpasses all competing technologies, including those from OpenAI. However, attention is already turning to the next model, Claude Mythos, which is currently in development. Anthropic has decided not to release this new AI just yet, as its advanced cybersecurity capabilities could be used to find vulnerabilities in software and conduct cyberattacks.
In the announcement of Claude Opus 4.8, the startup indicated that it continues to develop the necessary measures to safely release Claude Mythos. These efforts are progressing, and Anthropic plans to offer Mythos to all its clients in the coming weeks. For now, it is expected to be a restricted version that blocks requests that could lead to the exploitation of security vulnerabilities for cyberattacks. Even though the cybersecurity skills of Claude Mythos will be limited, except for authorized professionals, this AI is also expected to bring significant gains in other business sectors, such as research or software development.
A Historic Fundraising Round for Anthropic
Anthropic also announced a Series H fundraising round of $65 billion, bringing its valuation to $965 billion. This new fundraising round places Anthropic ahead of OpenAI in terms of valuation, despite having fewer users for Claude compared to ChatGPT. Although Claude has fewer users than ChatGPT, Anthropic's AI has become the darling of companies and professionals relying on AI to boost productivity. As a result, the startup is already generating significant revenue from this positioning.
In the announcement of this fundraising round, Anthropic claims that its revenues continue to grow. "Since our Series G fundraising in February, adoption has continued to rise among client companies worldwide, and our annualized revenue surpassed $47 billion earlier this month," the startup states. Anthropic now appears closer to profitability, with rumors suggesting it could turn a profit as early as this second quarter.
Claude Opus 4.8: A Model of Performance
Claude Opus 4.8 has allowed Anthropic to regain the lead in generative AI in terms of performance. The model has outperformed its competitors on most major benchmarks, including the Artificial Analysis index and GDPval-AA, which assess performance on intellectual tasks. Anthropic regains the top spot on GDPval-AA, an evaluation "of agent performance on intellectual work tasks."
With the imminent launch of Claude Mythos, Anthropic continues to position itself as a leader in the AI field, focusing on features that enhance productivity.
