Anthropic, a leading company in the field of artificial intelligence, recently announced a major advancement for its chatbot Claude, specifically in the legal sector. On Tuesday, the company introduced twelve new plugins as well as over twenty MCP connectors, each designed to meet specific needs in areas such as contract law, labor law, and litigation.
These new tools allow users to connect Claude to renowned external services like CoCounsel Legal from Thomson Reuters, DocuSign, Everlaw, Box, and the AI legal assistant Harvey. All these features are accessible via the Claude Cowork platform, where administrators can enable them in their workspace settings.
According to Mark Pike, General Counsel of Anthropic, lawyers are among the primary users of Claude. Over 20,000 lawyers attended a recent webinar dedicated to using Claude, and another session is already planned. The initial launch of Anthropic's legal tools in February had already made a significant impact, causing a drop of trillions of dollars in the stock prices of legal software companies.
However, Claude Cowork is not without its challenges. Security vulnerabilities, such as prompt injections, persist. For law firms handling sensitive data, these concerns must be carefully assessed before adopting these new technologies.
