Anthropic Alerts Financial Regulators About Claude Mythos
Anthropic is preparing to inform the finance ministries and central banks of major global economies about critical vulnerabilities in the cyber defenses of the financial system. These flaws have been highlighted by their latest artificial intelligence model, Claude Mythos.
This initiative responds to a request from Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England and Chair of the Financial Stability Board (FSB), which brings together financial regulators from G20 countries. The AI model has revealed thousands of severe security vulnerabilities in major operating systems and browsers.
Restricted Access and Security Concerns
Currently, around 40 organizations have access to Claude Mythos, including giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase. The White House has recently expressed concerns about the broader distribution of this model, asking Anthropic to restrict access for the time being.
Potential Macro-Financial Risks
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned about the potential for new AI models to transform cyber risks into a "macro-financial shock." The FSB is preparing a report on the use of AI in the financial system, which is expected to be published next month.
