An Ambitious Program for Young Professionals

Anthropic, a leading company in the field of artificial intelligence, recently unveiled its Claude Corps scholarship program. This initiative aims to award $85,000 to 1,000 early-career young professionals. These scholarships are designed to integrate these talents into partner nonprofit organizations of Anthropic, with an application deadline fast approaching.

Launched last month, the initiative aims to spread the benefits of AI within American communities. Scholars will work full-time for 12 months, receiving not only a salary but also various benefits. Interested candidates must submit their applications by July 17.

Goals and Funding of the Program

The Claude Corps program pursues two main objectives: on one hand, it aims to equip host organizations with valuable tools and systems, and on the other hand, it allows scholars to develop AI skills that will be crucial for their future careers.

Anthropic has allocated a budget of $150 million to this program, emphasizing the responsibility of tech companies to ensure that the benefits of AI are widely shared. This initiative also represents a direct investment in the workers who are on the front lines of the changes brought about by AI.

Operation and Eligibility Criteria

The first cohort of this program will start in October, with 100 scholars selected. Two more cohorts will follow next year. To be eligible, a candidate must be 18 years or older, have less than two years of full-time work experience, and be authorized to work in the United States. Anthropic has stated that it can assist scholars who need to relocate to participate in the program.

The program begins with intensive training on Claude, led by Anthropic in collaboration with CodePath, one of its partners. In addition to salary and benefits, scholars will receive mentorship from a CodePath mentor, office hours with Anthropic to address their technical questions, an extensive budget for Claude tokens, and career guidance provided by their manager in the host organization.

Partnerships with Nonprofit Organizations

The partner organizations, spread across the United States, include major NGOs such as YMCA and Goodwill Industries, as well as local organizations like SoundOff and the Reef Environmental Education Foundation in Florida. These partners focus on various areas, ranging from support for veterans to career guidance for low-income students, as well as bipartisan economic initiatives and combating food insecurity.

Impact of AI on the Job Market

The Claude Corps initiative represents a concrete response from Anthropic to the challenges posed by AI in the job market. Unlike other companies that primarily focus on research and regulation, Anthropic is directly creating AI-related jobs, although the number is limited. This approach is particularly relevant for recent graduates struggling to find entry-level positions, especially in sectors like coding where AI excels.

However, a recent study conducted by Ramp revealed that companies heavily integrating AI are actually hiring more, including for entry-level positions. Nevertheless, small businesses and those without venture capital funding are less inclined to adopt AI, a trend that may also affect nonprofits.

Application Process

Applications for the Claude Corps program must be submitted by July 17. For those who cannot meet this deadline, Anthropic has announced that applications will remain "open on a rolling basis" for the next two cohorts, scheduled for January 2027 and August 2027.
