Anthropic Unveils 'Reflection' for Claude
Anthropic has recently introduced a new beta feature for its artificial intelligence tool, Claude. Named 'Reflection', this feature aims to provide users with a better understanding of their interactions with the AI. Thanks to a visual dashboard, users can now analyze their usage habits and optimize their time spent with Claude, as detailed in a company blog post.
Maximizing AI Efficiency
Optimizing the use of AI tools is a shared concern among both users and developers. Indeed, developers want their products to be used continuously and effectively. While sharing personal data with AI systems can raise concerns, 'Reflection' offers an approach that provides users with useful insights about their own data, thereby promoting more beneficial usage.
Analyzing Usage Habits
The 'Reflection' tool allows Claude users to identify their usage habits by providing a summary of key activities over a chosen period. Users can select periods of one, three, six, or twelve months to obtain an overview or a more detailed analysis of their interaction with the AI. Anthropic also plans to add a feature to measure the total time spent on Claude.
Dashboard Features
The 'Reflection' dashboard offers a wealth of information, including overall usage, activity peaks, and detailed graphs outlining conversations and task distribution. Users have the option to set silence periods or receive reminders to take breaks after prolonged use of Claude.
Skill Development with the 4D Framework
Anthropic also encourages users to develop new skills through the 4D AI Fluency Framework integrated into the dashboard. This framework includes skills such as delegation, description, discernment, and diligence, thus optimizing work methods with Claude.
Privacy and Excluded Data
It is important to note that the 'Reflection' dashboard does not account for information from incognito mode discussions or files from previously connected tools. For example, if a user asks Claude to summarize their email inbox, only the summary will appear in the dashboard, not the emails themselves. Additionally, any conversation related to an integrated health tool will also be excluded.
Collaboration with Experts
To develop this tool, Anthropic collaborated with experts in digital media and well-being, including those from the Advancing Humans with AI program at MIT Media Lab, the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children's Hospital, and the Family Online Safety Institute. While sensitive conversations may be included in the reflections, they are presented only at a high level, ensuring a degree of confidentiality.
Availability of the Feature
Currently, the 'Reflection' dashboard is available for free in beta for Pro and Max users who have enabled memory in their Claude accounts. To access this feature, users simply need to open the settings on the web or desktop application and select the option to reflect on their usage. Reflections on Cowork conversations are not yet available but will be soon.
