Anthropic Unveils the Deception: Claude is a Human

In the world of tech startups, several companies have already faced the reality that behind their supposedly automated systems often lie real humans. These companies sometimes rely on entire call centers, employing hundreds of workers, with automation rates that hover near zero.

An Unexpected Revelation

On April 1st, Anthropic released a statement that took everyone by surprise: Claude, their supposed artificial intelligence, is actually a real person. Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, stated, “We have long hesitated to say it, but Claude is not a language model. He’s a guy named Claude, who lives in San Francisco, and who answers your questions from his couch.”

This case far exceeds previous instances, as Claude is assisted by a team of 8,500 people spread across multiple time zones to ensure service continuity. This organization explains the variable response times and stability issues reported in recent weeks. According to Amodei, when Claude takes 30 seconds to respond, it’s not inference, but a Google search.

A Revelatory Joke

Of course, this announcement was an April Fool's joke. Claude is indeed a language model. However, this prank highlights a truth: language models like Claude are built on the contributions of millions of internet users. Without the content and experience accumulated by internet users, these AIs would not function.

Thus, Claude also has his share of humanity. He simply “acquired” it, we might say, by training on you, using the material you created, without obtaining your consent – and especially, without dwelling too much on the idea of fair compensation for the value. Many humans would have liked this “oversight” to be part of the joke as well.

Editor’s Note: This article does not present a real fact; you can continue to use Claude. Nothing personal against Anthropic, it was just simpler with a first name.
