Anthropic Expands Access to Claude Cowork on Digital Platforms

The company Anthropic recently announced, through a press release published on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the extension of its Claude Cowork service to web, iOS, and Android platforms. This new feature will initially be available in beta for subscribers of the Max plan. Anthropic plans to subsequently extend it to other subscription tiers, marking a significant step in the American firm's deployment strategy.

Increased Autonomy for Ongoing Tasks

Initially launched in January 2026, Claude Cowork is a derivative version of Claude Code, specifically designed for non-technical users. This service allows users to delegate tasks to the conversational agent, which executes them autonomously using authorized files, connectors, and applications. Until now, this functionality was limited to the desktop application, and shutting down the computer would interrupt ongoing tasks.

With this new extension, Anthropic promises that work can now "continue in the background." Scheduled tasks can be executed without any device being connected. For example, a task initiated on a computer can be tracked and resumed from Claude's iOS or Android app. This opens up new possibilities: before a meeting with a client, a user can ask the agent to prepare a document. Claude can then analyze emails and transcripts, draft the document, and prepare a follow-up email without sending it. The user can then review these items at their convenience, for instance, "over a coffee." Any decision requiring human intervention will be signaled on the user's phone, who will retain control before any validation. This approach goes beyond the Dispatch feature, launched in March, which allowed Cowork to be controlled from a smartphone but required the session to be hosted on the computer.

This innovation addresses the needs identified by Anthropic, which seeks to increase the adoption of its tool among non-technical users. An internal study, covering 1.2 million Cowork sessions, revealed that software development accounted for only 8.7% of usage. In contrast, business operations (33.4%) and content creation (16.4%) were much more frequent.

Initially Available to Max Subscribers

On desktop computers, Claude Cowork has been available for all paid plans from Anthropic since its general rollout in April 2026. However, the timeline for web and mobile remains more uncertain. The beta version will first be accessible to subscribers of the Max plan in the coming weeks, before being gradually extended to other offerings. Here’s how users will be able to access Cowork:

• On the iOS and Android apps, it will appear in the sidebar.

Anthropic also emphasizes that the desktop application remains essential for full usage, as it allows access to local files and the browser. To celebrate this launch, the company announced that it would extend the doubling of Cowork usage limits until August 5.
